5 Happy Things
What are you up to this weekend? I think we’re going to get our game on and get those Halloween decorations up finally. I also have my monthly book club where we’ll be discussing one of the earliest works of the late American novelist Philip Roth (any fans out there?). And of course some baking involving apples, or pumpkin, or persimmons… Here are a few fun things to shareout there:
Speaking of Halloween decor, have you checked out this year’s amazing display on the Brooklyn Limestone blog? Stefanie’s outdone herself again, as she sets up a personal challenge every year to come up with an elaborate new theme to decorate her Brooklyn brownstone’s exterior. What lucky neighbors she has! It’s on again! Have you heard that Jamie Lee Curtis is reprising her role as “Laurie”—four decades later—in another Halloween movie? Who says a woman with a little more gray in her hair can’t take on Mike Myers? The reviews are looking good…
Here in L.A., a tamer choice for kiddos and adults alike is the Hollywood Bowl when for three nights the composer of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Danny Elfman, conducts the L.A. Philharmonic—and sings—during a screening of the movie. (Image via YouTube)
Some chunky boots with a little wingtip detailing to kick through fall leaves in. Love these beauties…
And finally an update on the recent infamous shredding of this painting by Banksy: Apparently the goal was to shred the entire painting after it sold at auction (for a whopping 1.4 million) as seen in this “Director’s Cut” rehearsal of the process (above), but only half of it was via hidden paper shredder. What do you think about this? Is it worthy of discourse whether art must endure or be something that transitions out of our lives like so much of Banksy’s street art? (Footage via YouTube)
