For Giving Tuesday, I'm Focusing on Mothers & Children
I have to admit, my shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday was pretty much a buy one gift, buy-myself-one-too kind of event. That’s why I love Giving Tuesday. This is actually a relatively new day created in 2012 in New York City by the 92nd Street Y and United Nations Foundation to fight the tide of commercialism. It takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, and I’m glad it’s there to remind me about the importance of charity on a spiritual and humanitarian level. After all, many of us just expressed gratitude at the Thanksgiving table so it does feel right to remember those who perhaps don’t share the same blessings.
This year I’m giving to World Vision, a charitable organization that has an intelligent and effective team able to identify myriad global needs and address them. For Giving Tuesday, they’ve partnered with Thirty-One Gifts to match your donation via product donation (up to $2 million dollars) in the form of apparel, thermals, and towels. The best part is that all of it will be directed to mothers and children in need!
Is charitable giving part of your family’s holiday experience? Do you donate directly, give to a food bank, or volunteer? I’d love to learn and be inspired by your efforts!
