So This Happened

So This Happened

If some of you have wondered where I've been lately, you can find me throwing hundreds of balls or playing with the velvety ears of this fun new addition to the family, Archie. I couldn't believe my eyes when I popped into our local animal shelter and saw him there--a purebred German Shorthair Pointer needing a new home.

Our previous dog, a Labrador, was also a rescue but we weren't exactly sure what to expect from this breed. Well, I'm happy to report that he's the perfect blend of athleticism and laid-back companionship: up for long walks or cuddling with the family.

Not only do we throw countless balls a day for Archie to gleefully retrieve, he's also taking great pleasure in destroying them (oh well, he's cute). His fur reminds me of those cowhides that are all the rage. I just position him for his nap wherever I need an accent rug.

You may have noticed all of Archie's spots, big and small. This is the very traditional coat of a German Shorthair Pointer. The smaller ones remind us of freckles, hence his name being inspired by the lead character of the vintage "Archie" comics. Betty and Jughead would approve, I'm sure.

He also finds lemons from our tree to play with and destroy so his breath is always fresh...

Look! He's actually pointing as the name of the breed indicates--he's legit!

Looking forward to many happy years with this kiddo. Are any of you welcoming any new additions to the family this summer? Share your news in the comments below.
